The Dental CT Scan will provide your oral surgeon with crucial information about your dental anatomy. The study is performed on our Dual Slice Helical CT scanner. 1.0 mm scans are performed through the mandible (lower jaw) or maxilla (upper jaw).
The information from the scans can then be reconstructed in any plane and presented three dimensionally. The scan images are recorded on film and sent to your surgeon who will then analyze the images in preparation for your procedure.
The information provided by the helical dental scan is unique. It is a virtual road map for the oral surgeon performing dental implants. It allows precise measurement of bone thickness, which is critical for surgical success. It demonstrates the location of nerves and the structures the surgeon must be aware of to avoid complications. This information is not obtainable on ordinary dental x-rays.
There is no preparation necessary, and there are no injections. You will be placed on the CT exam table in a comfortable position. It is not claustrophobic -- you are not in an enclosed space. The actual scan time is only several minutes. The images are reviewed by the radiologist and then sent to your oral surgeon.
